4.0 out of 5 stars

\”…that sounds like creating a human woman cheatsheet…\”

Jolene was abducted from Earth when she was just three years old. Life among the aliens is what she knows, but after 2000 years it is hard to say what she understands and where she fits it. She does know her purpose and her mission, and she\’s determined to stay true to the things that have given her life meaning for so long.

Harok was sent on a mission to find and return Jolene, but upon meeting her his first revelation just might be the most important… she may be an icon to his people, but she\’s still a person with goals and plans of her own.

This done in one Kindle unlimited book might be 18th in the series, but it is a solid stand alone, and given what a good job it does providing the information needed to know (remember) who characters are, and to understand this universe it feels like a viable entry point for new readers to the series. (I phrase it that way because I have read most if not all of the series before reading this, but was impressed by how accessible and \”easy\” a read it was with regards to the vast world building that has already been done.)

The Draconian characters are an honorable warrior species, and Harok exemplifies those characteristics, not just serving as a capable and able leader, but when he calls on the elders to counsel him a beautiful scene unfolds. He could have made a rash decision, but he doesn\’t. There are so many things this character could have done, instead we see the strength of community, the value of experience, various perspectives, and simply bouncing one problem off multiple minds rather than rushing in.

Oh, and watch out for the hatchlings in this book they are delightful scene stealers.
