This is, in essence, the beginning of a second series, as such some characters from the previous series are here, and we’re definitely on the same world a d dealing with consequences from the previous series, but this is also a new beginning in some important ways. As such I’m glad this is a solid stand alone read … New readers could join the series/world here.

Sophie was one of the miners, before everyone had to band together in the bunker to defeat a common enemy. The miners were known for two things, mining… and being vocally humans first, some might have called them purists.

Bahr has been alone longer than he can put words to… lime most Zmaj. Unfortunately, that might be the only way in which he still resembles his own species.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read is part of an interesting world, and revolves around two characters who are experiencing loneliness in very different ways. This story does some definite world building, giving a great sense of the bunker that has become home to the humans and Zmaj, and exploring how they are trying to survive underground until the planet’s surface can be inhabited once more.
