Indra is a human woman, toughened up by a rough life.
Nyek is a Lathar used to his own people keeping their distance and looking at him oddly.
Neither is the soft, touchy feely type, yet they might just be a match made in heaven if they can look beyond the surface to the person beneath, and come to understand the journey that led each to build their current protective layers.
This done in one story has some interesting world building and concepts, and lays down some threads that look like they will be picked up in the next book in the series.
