Jordan has lived his life unaware his existence is surrounded by secrets, but there comes a time in each person’s life when the past decides it is done being ignored.
This book is full of action and globetrotting, with some summer box office hit movie feel to it at times. (There are other times when I wished it had spent more time in proofreading and editing, particularly making some of the scene changes clearer and more graceful.)
Jordan is a normal, introverted, teenage boy. The biggest thing to happen in his life is making a friend. But as events unfold he gets a solid lesson in what people carry within… the good and evil, that which we vent but never act on — and that which is acted on for a variety of reasons.
Emma is a standout character, perhaps in part because she realizes she’s as good for Jordan as he is for her, and instead of taking advantage of him she steps up, determined to be the best of friends.
This is a young adult book, with only a few layers, I remind adults before reading — this is written for those who haven’t read thousands of books yet, as such, I appreciate the twists and turns of the story, and the theme of fighting to do what is right, even when you are fighting temptation and/or yourself.
